Thinking of Going Outside Your Expertise, Family Lawyer?

Here is a good article about the risks of going outside the bounds of one's expertise and experience as a family lawyer, for example, representing that divorce client in a felony criminal matter or another type of civil litigation:

Additional comment:   I have heard domestic abuse cases in which an order for protection is sought and the Respondent is represented by their criminal lawyer.  Sometimes the criminal lawyer is apparently unaware that under MN law any testimony by the Respondent is not admissible in the criminal case, therefore the Respondent does not testify.  The result is that Petitioner's evidence is un-controverted and the Petition is granted.  This is one example of the risks of practicing in an area of law outside one's expertise.
